“TRANSCENDENCE 115” (cronica.bandcamp.com/album/three-body-problem) is the latest in a long list of collaborations between Austrian digital artist LIA and the Portuguese experimental music project @c, of Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela.
“TRANSCENDENCE 115” was created for one of the compositions in @c’s album Three-Body Problem, released by Crónica in 2016, and composed from the soundtrack they created for a play by the Puppet Theatre of Porto premiered in late 2014.
In “TRANSCENDENCE 115”, as in much of LIA’s work, the starting point is a system of forms and actions, an algorithm for visual composition. This system is set in motion, reacting to the music and to LIA’s interaction, and producing the piece. In * TRANSCENDENCE 115*, and in tune with the album’s title, we discover a multitude of orbital patterns, a composition built by attraction and repulsion from which an elaborate and densely textured flow emerges. In LIA’s typically constructive approach, the video results from the accumulation of events and the traces left by these, in an open choreography.
